There are without a doubt many, many well known talented male DJs and producers around the globe, but how many female DJs and producers could you name?

To be honest even I struggled to make this post off the top of my head and asked around for a few pointers! Many female DJs it seems are struggling very hard to keep up with the game…
I came across many websites and profiles that were out of date and what was possibly a blossoming career in trance has sadly wilted away.

The ten below I hope some of you have heard of, or at least will see make further headway in their careers…enjoy!

Claudia Cazacu

Attending events week in week out, it wasn’t long before she decided her destiny belonged behind the decks! Launching her career in 2006, Claudia has followed in the footsteps of the new ‘super’ generation of DJs that are supremely talented both behind the decks and in the studio.”

This week's Trance Tuesday is the record label RR Recordings that have been pushing out the tracks this year after a re-launch.

This week’s Trance Tuesday is featuring the label RR Recordings. I really have enjoyed their work immensely recently and have featured a few of their tracks on my round up of new releases each week.

RR recordings originally started out as RR records founded by Ron van den Beuken with the first release in 2001 called ‘Mystery’ produced under his alias The Mystery. 2009 saw the name change to RR recordings and re-launch under the parent company Spinnin’ Records. Since then there has been multiple releases (I count six at time of writing with various remixes) that take a familiar sound and drive it home once again to the dance floor.

Some of my favourites so far have been the labels rework of The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and Chicane’s ‘Saltwater’, in the form of Cartouche’s ‘Bitter Sweet’ and Ron Van Den Beuken’s ‘Faraway (Harry’s Game)’ respectively. Their back catalogue is worth checking out too with releases from Sam Sharp and DJ Tatana.

Click here to keep up to date with Spinnin’ Records.
Click here for their releases on TrackItDown.net

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to subscribe via RSS or Email if you have not already done so!

If you think you have what it takes to be featured for Trance Tuesday please feel free to use the Contact Page to get in touch.

Some people make beautiful trance tracks, where as I believe Robert Vadney makes amazing trance tracks that leave you curious, intrigued and slightly twisted...

Last week I announced that Trance Tuesday is about change. Where as previously I stated that it should be kept to DJs and artists who are pretty much unknown, I would like to now state that it is a free for all, you may use #trancetuesday to highlight anyone and everything trance related. Many of my followers were adopting this attitude anyway so I felt it was obvious that many of you felt that this principle would be a lot better.

This week’s Trance Tuesday is someone who in the past year has completely changed the way trance can and will sound. Robert Vadney‘s album entitled ‘Halloween Anthems‘ (released last October with perfect timing from Perfecto Records) is not something you really would expect to redefine how trance can sound, but that is exactly what he has done with a sound like no other. His latest album ‘Shadowlove Anthems‘ is further proof to a very talented individual with a very unique sound.

‘Halloween Anthems‘ infuses what I would call Tim Burton let loose in a studio with Sean Tyas, Thomas Bronzwaer or any number of talented trance producers. You just can’t compare his sound to any DJ though! Robert Vadney is totally unique (please do correct me if wrong as I would love to find more of this sound available).

‘Shadowlove Anthems‘ is yet again altogether something else but this time a lot more vocals and so many more of the tracks will give a better impression on the dance floor I feel than his previous album.
From just listening to what I can on DJdownload.com I pick out ‘Black Clown‘ and ‘Hopeless Romantic‘ as some favs. Check out his releases on your favourite download site, I recommend DJdownload.com for listening at least due to the ability of listening to any part of the track in segments due to NeedleDrop Player.

Robert Vadney on DJdownload.com

Robert Vadney on beatport.com

Robert Vadney on TrackItDown.net

I’m truly astonished that I had not heard of him earlier. Having my head in tech-trance land for most of last year and now running this site is teaching me a few things, namely keep your eyes and ears open and you will find so much more talent

Some people make beautiful trance tracks, where as I believe Robert Vadney makes amazing trance tracks that leave you curious, intrigued and slightly twisted as he is said to reign supreme as “The King of Gothic Trance”…

Robert Vadney Website

Perfecto Records Website

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to add your Trance Tuesday recommendations as a comment below.

Cheers

iLLuMIDanCe interviews Stu Rush before their 2nd Birthday event on the Saturday

If you didn’t know by now, I run my own little trance night called iLLuMIDanCe. We are based in Portsmouth, UK and have featured up and coming talent such as Ben Nicky, Jordan Suckley and Laura May. Also we have had some great DJs in the form of Dave Dorrer, Dan Ascherl, Willzeh, Digital Harry and so many more.

On the 6th of June we celebrate our 2nd Birthday! Hooray! I originally started the night with my friend Sue Portman, but with Uni and work commitments during 2007 she stepped down and during that same period my resident DJs, Nathan Hunt and Alex Eneas, stepped up and became co-promoters.

I’m proud to say we represent what we truly believe in; hosting a trance night once a month.
Last year on Halloween 31st October, we also launched ‘iLLuMIDanCe Hard‘ to spread the word about the brand to those who liked things a little bit tougher.
This meant us hosting two nights a month at which point I also worked on the ‘iLLuMIDanCe presents‘ concept. This is where one DJ plays all night from when the club opens at 9pm and closes at 2am (told you Portsmouth does not have late licensing didn’t I ). The DJ then gets to play a variety of genres in their collection, rather than being limited to the typical one hour set they are booked for. We now rotate those two nights every other month on the Friday night before we host the trance night on the Saturday.

The future is looking good given the current financial climate and with Nathan and Alex on board with me, we make a good team where we always able to talk things over and pull each other up if something is not thought to be right. One of those things is us re-branding the night as I’m not too happy with the name after two years, still not many people can spell it correctly and what use is a night that no one can spell right? It will be nice to freshen up things a little I’ve been thinking.

In August we are doing a fund raising night for my girlfriend who is running 10 miles for Chase, a hospice for life-limited children. Later in the year I hope to move to a bigger venue or host an event successfully out of Portsmouth involving DJs that are established in the trance scene.

Enough of my ramblings though, you want to be introduced to the DJ I interviewed I’m sure, but if any of you in the UK can come celebrate our 2nd Birthday I would be chuffed to bits!

For our Birthday I was very keen to have two particular DJs. One was a lad I had heard something of on DontStayIn.com named Gio, we went up to see him play at Passion and all good there so booked him. I hope to interview him real soon and get a mix off him for you to download.

The other was Stu Rush…

If you live in the North of England then you have no doubt heard of Stu Rush as he has played many nights alongside some of the top names in hard dance. He has a very techno influenced style, with some trance thrown in and a splash of hard dance. After listening to four demos of his, I was very much impressed and wanted that little bit something different for our night that he offers with his cutting, chopping and 3 decks with FX style.

iLLuMIDanCe: Thanks for taking this time to do this interview Stu! This is the first iLLuMIDanCe interview to feature on www.ilovetrancemusic.com
Talking of first times… When was your first time playing out and what made you take up the decks?

Stu Rush: Cool mate no problemo!
My first gig was at a up’n'coming night called Super Stars. If you did well at this night you got to play at the bigger event Eat Your Words, which in its hay day was the biggest night here in hull. I’ve played many EYW events now with some top names. I got into clubbing when I was 19, I use to watch the DJs and think I can do this! I got my first set of decks and got straight into it!

iD: So for first time DJs you would recommend just putting yourself out there and seeing what the crowd thinks of you as you never know where it will lead?

Stu Rush: I was so nervous at my first gig I thought I was gonna be shit, but after 1 or 2 mixes I settled right into it and had the crowd eating outta my hand. I later realised that to get anywhere these days you need to be offering something different. From the first time I heard Eddie Halliwell’s bosh mix from Mixmag, I was totally influenced by him and decided I wanted to go down the technical route rather than the production side of things that everyone else seems to be going down.

iD: Yes Eddie seems to be one of very few who has been able to make a successful career from DJing alone on the merit that he does what he does on the decks so well.
How do you feel about the music industry where it is perceived that in order to be successful you have to be able to produce too?

Stu Rush: Don’t get me wrong, producing good tracks will make the DJ work come in time. Everyone seems to be making tunes these days as production packages are so accessible now, but I still believe strongly that a crowd love to see a DJ getting involved with a crowd and perform, rather than just play a handful of tunes that they have made whilst not entertaining behind the decks.
I have produced a track recently and really enjoyed doing it, but at heart I’m a DJ and that will always come first for me as I love working up a crowd!

iD: Well I will certainly look forward to you whipping up the iLLuMIDanCe crowd into a frenzy with your hard and techy style on the 6th June for our 2nd Birthday! Has this sound crossed over fully with your production do you feel?

Stu Rush: Yes the track I produced is a tech-trance slammer, with a dark and catchy hook. It’s called ‘The Dark Theory’ and I made it with a top young producer called Tomas Evans. I have been going a little more trancier lately, but still try to keep the cut-and-paste mixing style in there without killing the trance vibe.

iD: So Stu Rush in the studio, I’ll be looking forward to listening to that!
Going back to DJing again, what sets you have been booked for stand out in your mind?

Stu Rush: I have played at Helmsley Biker Festival four times. It attracts around 10,000 people each year, and around a third of them go crazy in the dance tent. Also NYE 2004/2005 I played at a massive all day rave at The Street in Skegness.

more chopping n changing @ the Pier

iD: Has there been any favourite DJs you have played alongside at such events, maybe those who inspired you to take up DJing?

Stu Rush: I have played alongside and also b2b with Jordan Suckley before. He is a top young DJ who has the same approach to DJing I have, to break the rules a little and mangle the tracks up. His stuff will always inspire and appeal to me. I’m still hoping to get the dream gig of warming up for my idols Eddie Halliwell or Kutski yet.

iD: Well if we ever book either we’ll keep you in mind
If you could only play three tracks back to back all night, what would they be?

Stu Rush: Tony Di Vit – The Dawn (Paul Janes Remix)
Signum – What You Got 4 Me
Dejure – Sanctuary

iD: And what three new trance releases are you loving right now?

Stu Rush: The Killers – Spaceman (Sander van Doorn Remix)
John Askew – Vandalism
Paul Webster – Istanbul (Fred Baker Remix)

iD: Nice choices there!
So your latest demo is called ’3 Dex & FX Extreme Bosh Mix’. How would you describe this mix to anyone not having heard it?

Stu Rush: A no holds barred trip into techno, tech-trance and hard dance, with loadsa my trademark tricks and scratching!

iD: Other than iLLuMIDanCe what other gigs can we catch you at?

Stu Rush: I regularly play for Ultrasonic, Lets Av It, Confusion and Eat Your Words all here up north (England, UK), so check places like Facebook and DontStayIn.com for their listings.

iD: Thanks once again for your time Stu, and as our final question that is always asked on iLove Trance Music… What does trance music mean to you?

Stu Rush: Trance music is powerful, emotional music. I love all different genres but nothing can create the feeling that trance can, 10,000 people with their hands in the air to the same euphoric tune can’t be wrong!

Mac and Taylor are this weeks Trance Tuesday. Check what they are all about with a free mix inside!

I’ve got a mix sitting on my desktop that has been pretty much on repeat of late, and anyone who knows me personally and talked about trance will have heard me banging on about a track called ‘Animal’ (which was co-produced with Jordan Suckley). Mac & Taylor play and produce a sound that I completely love!
If I had my way I would book them straight away for my iLLuMIDanCe event and I’m sure one day I will. Only thing stopping me right now is their cost is a lil fraction higher than our current small venue can meet, but if we move then who knows

I’ll let their press pack do some of the talking…

Cruising Through the ranks as one of the most hotly tipped Tech-Trance acts of the moment Mac & Taylor are set to hit the heights in 2009. Aptly named “New breed tech-trance legends” by top music download site TrackItDown.net this liverpool based DJ/production duo have captured the attention of the worlds elite DJs and the world’s trance scene in general.

They have seen support from the likes of Judge Jules, Agnelli & Nelson, Sander van Doorn and many more for their productions that have been released on Couture, Abstract Recordings, Stampgevaar Digital, Beyond Digital, Communicate Recordings and Infexious Recordings.

Going through their releases on TrackItDown.net, they have an impressive list already that are all quality releases ready to demolish dancefloors across the world, and have done just that!

If you really want to know what I mean then get on with downloading their following mix

Mac and Taylor Guest Mix – Feb 09 and Track list
SendSpace.com Link

To keep up with their bookings then check out their MySpace page, recently added is them being booked for Planet Love Ireland 2009.
MySpace Link

For any booking enquiries please contact www.new-wavemanagement.co.uk

Thank you for reading another Trance Tuesday and don’t forget to use the hashtag #trancetuesday on Twitter when suggesting your own.

Stuart

P.S. Next week there will be a little change in the rules of Trance Tuesday so we can spread the word and make it easier for all to take part. Some of you have already been doing things differently, so it only makes sense for me to go with the flow.

Just like last week I'm really struggling to resist adding more than 5 new tracks, and this week you will be glad to know I have failed! So here are 10 New Trance Tracks that I think you'll more than like!

Just like last week I’m really struggling to resist adding more than 5 new tracks, and this week you will be glad to know I have failed! So here are 10 New Trance Tracks that I think you’ll more than like!

The list below is just a small selection of the many great tunes floating around at the moment, but first I’ll start with a progressive tune that I heard played from a DJ’s laptop not so long ago at a house party. It is by no means a new track having being released last year, but I really, really, really do love this track. It is unusual for me to like a progressive tune as much as I do this one, I think the last time I bought a true progressive tune it may have been Holden & Thompson’s ‘Nothing’ to put it in perspective.

So, this maybe a list of New Trance Tracks I try and gather each week, but along the way I may include something that is new to me and old to you. Hopefully it will serve as a reminder of a great track, enjoy!
Also I notice some of the sites I visit release the same track at different times, so I’m sorry if there is confusion if you have seen a release elsewhere earlier. I’m working very hard on getting official release dates from labels and artists directly to avoid this in future.

Mango – Every Sunrise (Original Mix)
Mango Alley Recordings
beatport.com link

I’ve been winding a few of my followers up on Twitter about loving this track, well here it is! It has that perfect summertime feel to it and with the sun shining again I bet this really set the tone last summer for those who heard it – lucky people I say! I know I will be playing it this summer due to its uplifting and euphoric nature.
Thanks to new friend Sydmey for introducing this track into my life! You’ll find the full length track embedded from YouTube on the home page too.

Gareth Emery – Metropolis (Original Mix)
Garuda
TrackItDown.net link

Gareth’s second release ‘Metropolis’, on his new label Garuda, is just as keen as ‘Exposure’ to show why so many people are believing him to be one of the leading figures of trance for the future. Another top notch track!

Maelstrom – Remember Your Inputs (Original Mix)
Iboga Records
DJdownload link

Another progressive tune for you, somewhat deeper and darker here with a lovely rhythm to it. I love the use of percussion and the vocal which really brings the track to a new level. I have never come across this label before even though it has been in existence for many years. I recommend checking out their other releases that are really something different from the norm.
TrackItDown.net as it happens featured this label in a mail out today and count most of its work as house, nice cross over stuff if you ask me though.

Michal Poliak – Carpathia
WA-X Records
TrackItDown.net

Many tracks are doing a fabulous job at infusing tech-trance sounds and feeling to a progressive attitude right now and this is one of them. There are many producers from further east doing a great job representing trance to the world and I must say I’m loving their sound. I’ll be looking at for further releases from Michal Poliak and those of WA-X records, which happens to be a label from CGI Records.

Taylor & Close – Vanity Fair (Neal Thomas Remix)
Abstract Recordings
TrackItDown.net link

The Neal thomas Remix is a TrackItDown.net exclusive and does the business really well, but any one of the other mixes are worthy for your collection I’d say. Abstract Recordings owner Ben Nicky was suggested as my Trance Tuesday a few weeks back, if you didn’t get to grab his mix, then go do so now: Link

Frog & Bugle feat. LeeMac – Seven Days To Eden (East & Young Remix)
RR Recordings
beatport.com link

A nice use of Robert Mile’s ‘Seven Days and One Week’. Another one of those tracks that will get a good reaction from making use of a classic and if you remember I featured RR Recordings previously with Cartouche’s ‘Bitter Sweet’ track. Good stuff coming from this label that is brushing close to commercial but doesn’t quite cross the line to turn me off.

Marcel Woods – Inside Me (Original Mix)
High Contrast Recordings
beatport.com link

I do like a bit of Marcel Woods for his ear piercing synth use and here it as if he has ripped Marco V’s ‘Unprepared’ and made it his own. Suits me fine!

Richard Durand – Always The Sun (Roger Shah Remix)
Magik Muzik
DJdownload.com link

Was disappointed to hear Richard Durand going down the big uplifting vocal route until I heard the Roger Shah Remix. I hope this is not an ongoing trend for producers who have done well doing the tech-trance sound with vocals; John O’Callaghan being another example after his album featuring a load of vocalists and no hard hitting sound in my opinion.

Pascal Feliz – Smack My 2 Core Up
Musical Madness
TrackItDown.net link

An epic breakdown soon makes room for a monster riff that gets the feet moving. Highly recommended listening!

Sunny Lax – Reborn (Original Mix)
Anjunabeats
DJdownload.com link

Lush track that you have heard many a time no doubt, and will hear again and again now everyone can get their hands on it. The remix by Nitrous Oxide ups the pace nicely if you find the original too laid back.

That is the 10 for this week!

Hope you get to enjoy some of them. I’d better start looking for new tracks straight away if I’m to do 10 next week :S Haha!

As a thank you to all my readers I got a freebie sourced for you.
Last week Dave Dresden threw up the following link for all to download on Twitter. I asked him if I could feature it here which he gladly said yes to. It is a remix of Calvin Harris’s I’m Not Alone.

Recommended listening as Digital Foundation 003, on Saturday 09th May, features Paul Webster, Myon & Shane54 and many more!

As radio shows go Digital Foundation is still in its infancy, and with this only being its 3rd episode to be broadcast on Saturday 9th May on sense.fm host Stevie Carnie has put together a show full of exclusive guest mixes from some of the hottest producers about.

Episode 003 features guest mixes coming from trance heavy weights Paul Webster (Armada), Myon & Shane54 (Anjunabeats/Armada) and tech trance/techno rising star Reaky (Yin Yang). To top off the show is the talents of young Scottish producer and DJ – D:folt (also signed to Armada) and 18 yr old Irish newcomer Ciaran Fox, who has recently had his first solo release ‘Slip’ signed to Claudia Cazacu’s Couture label.
All this knitted together by Stevie’s own top tracks of the month and a well known Classic.

Paul Webster (Armada)

Paul Webster is man who knows exactly how to make a dance floor explode, with his productions causing havoc all across the world and being dropped by the likes of Simon Patterson, Fred Baker and Judge Jules. He is the next in line to take over the world from that small island in the Atlantic that seems to produce only the finest music.

Myon & Shane54 (Anjunabeats)

From Armin to Above & Beyond this young pairing have conquered the world with there awesome original productions, remixes and bootlegs – whatever they touch turns to gold. Playing at the sold out A State of Trance 400 event in Germany showed that it’s not only producing this pair can do, the world is theirs for the taking.

D:folt (Armada)

Over the last year, this young mans status as a future star has been cemented. From his track ‘I Come Running’ being remixed by Tydi and used by him to open his set at this years Trance Energy festival, or being given the opportunity by Armada to remix one of the best tunes of the year David Forbes’s ‘Because of You’.
If it is vocal trance you like, D:folt is your man.

Reaky (Yin Yang)

Slovenia’s Reaky has a mission. That mission is to turn the trance world into a quivering wreck! His pounding tech-trance tracks are being dropped by the biggest DJs on the planet including Paul van Dyk and Eddie Halliwell, the latter loving his tunes that much he signed them to his compilation album Fire It Up.

Ciaran Fox (Couture)

18yr old DJ/Producer from Northern Ireland, having just signed his first debut release to Couture, this young man is now on a mission to become the next Irish trance superstar! Using the reliable Fruity loops to produce his tracks it is clear the future is bright for Ciaran…remember where you heard him first.

Digital Foundation Episode 003 Details
Make sure that you tune in on Saturday, May 9, 2009 to this very special edition of Digital Foundation with Stevie Carnie. The show kicks off as scheduled at 9:00am CST | 10:00am EST | 15:00 GMT | 16:00 CET.
sense.fm

I’m not one to post too much about radio shows as you can gather.
Why? Well there are plenty of shows that are broadcast every day of the week and I don’t want to clog up the site too much week in, week out with the same content. That would reduce the quality to mere spam surely?
Add a comment though at the end if you would like to see a round up of forthcoming shows each week and I’ll see what I can do

For its 3rd episode I couldn’t resist shouting out about such a fantastic selection of guests on Digital Foundation. Well done to Stevie Carnie for getting all these lot onto one show. I’ll be setting a reminder on my phone to tune in!

Once again that is on sense.fm at 9:00am CST | 10:00am EST | 15:00 GMT | 16:00 CET.

Please spread the word about the show and of course subscribe to iLove Trance Music if you have not already done so!

Cheers

Newly signed Jordan Suckley is this weeks Trance Tuesday!

For some time I have been listening to Jordan Suckley and his mixes. He is a very talented individual, making use of 3 decks, FX, scratching, looping, chopping and all manner of trickery on the CDJs!
After hearing him play in London it soon led to me booking him for my own event and keeping a close eye on this star in a making.

To confirm my beliefs along with many of his fans, he was snapped up this year by PFAgency and also made Goodgreef resident.
Well done to Jordan, he is a down to earth lad from the conversations I have had with him and deserves all the success he has achieved. There is not a doubt in my mind he is going to climb even higher and become a regular name on the international stage.

Along with superb DJ talent skills, Jordan Suckley has been getting his hands dirty in the studio and has had some excellent tracks released. My favourite so far being Mac & Taylor Vs. Jordan Suckley – Animal. It really raises the roof with a hard, gritty, tech-trance sound!

The 1st interview posted on iLove Trance Music, hope you all enjoy the words of Emma Hewitt who's voice graced Cosmic Gate's 'Not Enough Time'.

Emma Hewitt broke the scene back in 2006 with Chris Lake’s ‘Carry Me Away’ and her recent release with Cosmic Gate’s ‘Not Enough Time’, from their 4th album ‘Sign of Their Times’, has been doing the business worldwide. Superior vocals all round from this Australian born singer and songwriter have meant she has been quick to stand out from the crowd and attract attention from some of the hottest producers on the planet.

Here I catch Emma with a 9 hour time difference between us. This means I’m having my morning coffee at 10am, whilst Emma is waiting to settle down for the evening no doubt with it being 7pm on a Monday. Assuming I’m in “London Town” (as that is where all Englishmen live right?) she asks how it is there? I live in Portsmouth I tell her, but as I’m visiting London next week I’ll update her.
We quickly discuss the A State of trance 400 show, both wishing we had been at any one of the 3 events held over the weekend and find we both like Gareth Emery. Musically that is, I couldn’t tell you if she has a crush on him! And no, I don’t before anyone starts…

When I ask her what she got up to on the weekend she replies with “Umm…I went down the coast and actually witnessed a pretty massive boat smash! Carnage! I think the captain may have been drunk… Driving this huge cruiser, he just smashed into the jetty and rear ended three fishing boats.
I didn’t head out to any clubs or anything though, just trying to be low key!!” She was even standing on the jetty when it happened! If that is having a low key weekend, I can only wonder what a weekend out partying is like with Emma Hewitt?!

So I’ll quit my, or our ramblings, and move onto what you really want to read about…

Thank you for our brief chat about what is happening in our worlds, I’m glad I worked out the time zone difference correctly to catch up with you and you made it off the jetty alive!

You have made such an impact on the scene with your collaborations, both with Chris Lake and Cosmic Gate, what do you think of all the buzz surrounding your tracks?

Well I am extremely lucky to have had the opportunity of working with such great producers/djs, it is exciting to hear the tracks are getting a bit of buzz around them!!

At what age did you start singing, and was it always a goal to turn professional and make it a career?

I pretty much always wanted to sing, it was really the only career option I was ever interested in! (I was pretty bad at most other things too, so I guess that is a good thing! )

I started in bands at about the age of 16 and just kept writing and pursuing music from there. I never had any formal training or anything, I just kind of picked it up along the way.

I’m seeing a reoccurring theme that female singers being picked up by trance producers have background experience in other music genres, such as rock. I know you yourself have your band Missing Hours. Did you ever think that you would hear your voice being heard anywhere other than on stage with a band behind you?

Yeah, it is kind of a strange experience to venture into different genres! I had always hoped to sing on some trance tracks, as I really love the style of music. I just seemed to be surrounded by rock musicians all the time, and no one that knew anything about the trance genre, so it seemed a foreign world to me!

I am finding myself more and more captivated by the world of trance music and less inspired by rock music at the moment. There seem to be so many possibilities with trance, rock music can be quite limiting I suppose.

When you say limiting, do you mean that by the time and effort you have to put in with a band, or other factors?

Yeah, the recording process with a band is a lot more time consuming. Then you have to deal with record labels and marketing people all pushing and pulling you in different directions. It takes months and months for a rock album to filter out!!

I love the fact that with trance music it is more about creating music that you love and getting it out to the clubs for people to hear as quickly as possible!! There is potential for a much broader range of people to hear the music too!

Cosmic Gate are massive producers and achieved so much in the scene and even had commercial success with the likes of the classic ‘Firewire’. How did you end up creating a track with them that has took the trance scene by storm?

I was so lucky here! I am a big fan of Cosmic Gate! They are fantastic producers. They actually got in contact through MySpace and asked me to work on a track. I fell in love with the instrumental they sent through, just beautiful! I wrote and recorded the vocals in a little studio over here and emailed it across to them.

They had the track mastered in a matter of days, and started playing it in their sets almost immediately…A wonderful experience working with such professional people. I hope to meet the guys in person someday!!

So going back to your previous answer, that is a great example as to the possibilities that you can achieve with trance music, or any electronic dance music for that matter. You have not even met Cosmic Gate, not travelled across the world, but still accomplished what many people dream of. Great stuff!

Exactly! It blows my mind that I can record vocals in my friend’s little studio by the ocean over here, and in a matter of weeks they are being played in clubs on the other side of the world!

You speak of your love of trance music. What are your top 3 tracks old and new that you enjoy?

The Tiesto mix of ‘Silence’ is my all time favorite still! I love Armin’s ‘Sound of Goodbye’ and funnily enough, Cosmic Gate’s classic ‘Firewire’ just takes me back to some good old memories!! haha.

Oooh, I forgot to mention Nadia Ali though… I really love her vocals and am really enjoying ‘Love Story’.

So now that you have a main player under your belt, is your inbox and phone buzzing with producers wanting you to work with them? If so, can you let the cat out of the bag about any projects?

Haha, well a lot more doors have been opening lately, which is fantastic! I have a track in the pipeline with Gareth Emery which I am really excited about!! I love his production, so I can’t wait to hear where he takes this one! I am about to start a track with Sied van Riel, who I am also a big fan of! I am currently writing vocals for Andy Duguid and Marcus Shossow as well.

I am really excited to be working on some ideas for Tiesto’s side project “Allure” too. So there is lots to keep me busy this year!!

I really like the Sied van Riel mix of ‘Not Enough Time’, so I expect he will do great things with you, likewise for all of them though. You really do have a list of top names there, well done! I’ll look forward to hearing your voice hitting the dance floor for a long time yet it seems.

With work lined up with some of the biggest trance producers in the world, is there anyone else that you would wish to work with?

I would love to work with Ferry Corsten, we have had a few email chats about working on something for his next album, so hopefully that works out. And Armin Van Buuren, of course, would be great!

Ah yes Ferry Corsten, iLove Trance music readers should stay tuned for something Ferry related real soon!

Are you planning on travelling to the northern hemisphere any time soon, with say doing a live set with Cosmic Gate as an example?

I would love to!! I am definitely planning a trip out to Europe during the summer to do some shows, it would be wonderful to do a live set with Cosmic Gate…I will have to have a chat to them and see if we can organize something!

Aiming high I see!

Haha, well I guess, might as well aim somewhere!!

Recently you had Trance Energy tour around Australia, what is the trance scene like in Australia?

The trance scene in Australia is a little underground, it is nowhere near as appreciated as it is in Europe. People seem to be more into electro and house out here, but I think trance is slowly starting to emerge a bit more. The people that do follow trance here are definitely die hard fans of the music!

As one last question before I let you enjoy the rest of the evening in Australia…
What does trance music mean to you?

Trance music to me is music that feels as though it can almost raise your vibrational energetic levels and intensify feelings, like it could take you to a different place of being at times ….music that transcends…

A real spiritual answer there. Well it has been fantastic chatting to you Emma!

You too Stuart!!! Lovely talking to you! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat

Thank you ever so much for your time and answers. I wish you all the best for the future and I’m looking forward to hearing more from you!

My Top 5 New Trance Tracks! Hope you enjoy finding at least one new discovery!

Ok it’s a day late but here is my Top 5 New Trance Tracks for the 20th April!

I hope you all had a wonderful time listening to what you could of A State of Trance over the weekend. It was without a doubt amazing to hear of 11,000 plus people from across the globe tuning in via the video stream and multiple audio streams. Without a doubt Armin van Buuren has sent a benchmark that will be hard to beat. Was nice to connect with lots of you on Twitter too through the hashtag #asot400

Anyway, back on topic…

Cartouche – Bitter Sweet (Extended Mix)
RR Recordings
TrackItDown.net link

As the title suggests, yes it is a mix of the Verve’s – Bitter Sweet Symphony. No vocals but the sweeping strings are all over it. I maybe a little early shouting out this one as there is only the Extended Mix available which I think has the potential for better things, though I still think it is a lovely take that will raise a cheer from the dance floor.

Oen Bearen – Ajoyable (Original Mix)
Stampgevaar Digital
DJdownload.com link

I don’t hear many tracks who treat their breakdowns and what they involve after with the care and attention as they once use to. I’m loving the subtle sound of this one and the way Oen Bearen carrys it through when it kicks back in, rather than inducing us with electro inspired basslines that is all the trend lately (E.g. Simon Patterson – Bulldozer).

Push – Universal Nation (Guy Mearns Remix)
Progrez
DJdownload.com link

Another nice progressive number with remix duties by Guy Mearns getting a release on Progrez, after being featured on Bonzai’s labels twice already! A nice change from his tougher numbers on Lee Haslam’s Digital Remedy Recordings, and really shows he can diversify his sound.

Mandy Lou – Madystic (Original Mix)
Sphere Traxxx
TrackItDown.net

This has been out for a while but I have only just picked up on it. I’m loving the interesting arrangement, it is an intelligent tech-trance affair not for the faint hearted! I can see why DJ Choose has put this one in his box.

Night Liberator – Artificial Pervasion (Charlie G & Vandall Remix)
CGI Records
TrackItDown.net link

More awesome tech-trance with one massive breakdown. With support from Judge Jules (featuring on his Radio 1 show) and played out by the likes of Yoji (Night Liberator added to HellHouse Recordings too!) and Scot Project, hell even Ferry Corsten is all over it! It is one for the shopping cart tech-trance lovers!!
