Some people make beautiful trance tracks, where as I believe Robert Vadney makes amazing trance tracks that leave you curious, intrigued and slightly twisted...

Last week I announced that Trance Tuesday is about change. Where as previously I stated that it should be kept to DJs and artists who are pretty much unknown, I would like to now state that it is a free for all, you may use #trancetuesday to highlight anyone and everything trance related. Many of my followers were adopting this attitude anyway so I felt it was obvious that many of you felt that this principle would be a lot better.

This week’s Trance Tuesday is someone who in the past year has completely changed the way trance can and will sound. Robert Vadney‘s album entitled ‘Halloween Anthems‘ (released last October with perfect timing from Perfecto Records) is not something you really would expect to redefine how trance can sound, but that is exactly what he has done with a sound like no other. His latest album ‘Shadowlove Anthems‘ is further proof to a very talented individual with a very unique sound.

‘Halloween Anthems‘ infuses what I would call Tim Burton let loose in a studio with Sean Tyas, Thomas Bronzwaer or any number of talented trance producers. You just can’t compare his sound to any DJ though! Robert Vadney is totally unique (please do correct me if wrong as I would love to find more of this sound available).

‘Shadowlove Anthems‘ is yet again altogether something else but this time a lot more vocals and so many more of the tracks will give a better impression on the dance floor I feel than his previous album.
From just listening to what I can on DJdownload.com I pick out ‘Black Clown‘ and ‘Hopeless Romantic‘ as some favs. Check out his releases on your favourite download site, I recommend DJdownload.com for listening at least due to the ability of listening to any part of the track in segments due to NeedleDrop Player.

Robert Vadney on DJdownload.com

Robert Vadney on beatport.com

Robert Vadney on TrackItDown.net

I’m truly astonished that I had not heard of him earlier. Having my head in tech-trance land for most of last year and now running this site is teaching me a few things, namely keep your eyes and ears open and you will find so much more talent

Some people make beautiful trance tracks, where as I believe Robert Vadney makes amazing trance tracks that leave you curious, intrigued and slightly twisted as he is said to reign supreme as “The King of Gothic Trance”…

iLove Trance Music announces TranceTuesdays on Twitter!

As some of you following the @ilovetrance account on Twitter will know, I started talking about how I was to bring something to you Twitter Tweeters on Tuesday. So in all its glory I announce ‘TranceTuesday’, or in Twitter speak – #trancetuesday

EDIT: Below is the original post made where I intended that Twitter users spread the word of up and coming DJs and artists. Many users were recommending known artists, so in a later post I suggested that people do just that and recommend whoever they like. I will be trying my hardest still to seek out new people in the scene for you all to listen to though.
What is Trance Tuesday?

TranceTuesday is an opportunity for you to make at least one tweet that informs your followers of a new DJ/artist/producer. Look at it as our own take on FollowFriday, but aimed specifically at us helping what we truely enjoy, rather than an internet marketing ploy of gaining more followers

For more on FollowFriday please look at this article… #FollowFriday: The Anatomy of a Twitter Trend
I understand that there is a @newmusictuesday as I did some research seeing if there was already a Trance Tuesday. They cover a spectrum of music though and not aiming at any particular genre from what I can see.

So what do I do on TranceTuesday?

You simply send a tweet about your newly discovered talented DJ/artist/producer!

It can be their username on Twitter, but a much better way of supporting your new found person(s) would be an legite link also to their production or demo mix I’m sure you’ll agree! (Please do not condone filesharing, send your followers to official download sites to pay for the artists work, support the scene!)

The aim is then that your followers who also like your find, will listen to said track or mix and retweet if they like it. You have then helped create a new fanbase and contributed to the scene. I would like to think you focus primarily at up and coming DJs/artists/producers. It is not that I have anything against the likes of Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, etc. I just love good trance music and finding new hidden gems, as I’m sure you do too!

I was deciding between Thursday or Tuesday as you may recall. The reason I decided on Tuesday is as follows:

1. Thursday everyone is looking towards the weekend, not back to last weekend as they do on say a Tuesday. The conversation would be more focused on the forthcoming headliner, rather than the DJ who shined in the back room at 4am.
2. It gives you a chance to recover after the Monday blues when returning back to your Mon-Fri 9-5 routine (if applicable to you

So I announce today as the first TranceTuesday! I hope you all love the idea and take part!

Follow me on Twitter to see who I recommend each TranceTuesday! @ilovetrance

Cheers to illustrator-artwork.blogspot.com for the birdie in the design I made.

I maybe lagging behind here, but when did the hard dance scene become so interested in trance?

I maybe lagging behind here, but when did the hard dance scene become so interested in trance? Many promotions I agree have over the years have mixed it up between hard house, hard trance, hardstyle and thrown in the trance DJ as their warm up typically, or hosted trance at multiple day/room events. I attended Tidy Magna Homecoming on the 7th march… I was not attending for their trance line-up of course (you may throw stones here), but I was once a fan of hard house and love the act Lab4 who were making a comeback at this event after a two year split.

Now back to the trance…

At Tidy Magna on Saturday the 7th of March they had the following trance sets:

Agnelli & Nelson vs. Solarstone
Guyver vs. Garbo

I was really surprised to see these were not the first sets of the night, the doors being open from 8pm. If the biggest hard house brand in the UK is paying such attention to trance at its one night event and then releasing the Agnelli & Nelson vs. Solarstone live set on a 3 CD pack (alongside Lab4 LIVE and Paul Glazby), then what does the future hold?

In recent years there has been a major turn around with many brands crossing genres. We have already seen, during 2007, Tidy Trax release a Bryan Kearnley remix of Tony de Vit’s ‘The Dawn’ and then we have Riot Recordings adding an impressive list of trance to its catalogue. What interests me is the fact that Riot Recordings have not only released some great trance music, but have drafted in some of the major names in the hard house/dance scene such as BK and Amber D to work alongside trance greats in the form of Ali Wilson and Judge Jules. Nukleus also have been back on form with some great trance releases. The later half of 2008 saw Yoji (formerly Yoji Biomehanika) release Tech Dance Euphoria which had a whole lot of trance included, along the lines of Stoneface & Terminal ‘Volcano’, 4 Strings ‘Catch A Fall’ and Ronald Van Gelderen ‘Dirty Rocker’. When someone such as Yoji, who is always at the forefront of trends and developing sounds, seems to be pushing trance music, then I’d be sitting up and paying attention. I have always found him to be way ahead anyone else in the hard dance industry. You only have to look at where hardstyle is now and note that he was playing that genre years ago, infused with his melodic sound!

Will this crossover continue as has already been championed by Goodgreef? I think they have to be the most respected event out there for making this vision happen! I’d like to think some of the diehard hard dance fans could thoroughly enjoy some tech-trance from the likes of John O’Callaghan, Eddie Halliwell and DJ Choose and start to fully understand that not all trance is strictly hands in the air Kevin & Perry stuff (or Human Traffic for that matter). To be honest we could even do with re-educating a few techno heads whilst we are at it – it’s not called tech-trance for nothing surely?

What are your views on trance filtering through the hard dance scene? Do you think it will give rise to another commercial success in the years to come, such as that of the late nineties, if this trend continues?

For many DJs being featured in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list is rather like being nominated for a BAFTA or an Oscar.

For many DJs being featured in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list is rather like being nominated for a BAFTA or an Oscar. It opens avenues, enables them to ask for a bigger booking fee and also there must be that feeling of “Yes I’ve made it!”. It is without a doubt the landmark event each year with dance music fans and industry insiders watching closely to see who takes the No.1 spot.

I was originally going to make this the Top 10 Trance DJs, but then with DJmag.com visitors voting for 7 out of the Top 10 DJs as part of our much loved genre, then it would of been way too easy a list to compile and not leave much food for thought. So here in all its glory is the Top 25 Trance DJs compiled from the Top 100 DJs List as voted by DJmag.com visitors in 2008!

01. Armin van Buuren
02. Tiësto
03. Paul van Dyk
04. Above & Beyond
05. Ferry Corsten
06. Markus Schulz
07. Infected Mushroom
08. Sander van Doorn
09. Paul Oakenfold
10. Andy Moor
11. Eddie Halliwell
12. Kyau & Albert
13. Gareth Emery
14. ATB
15. Bobina
16. Aly & Fila
17. Judge Jules
18. Matt Darey
19. Lange
20. Astrix
21. Marco V
22. The Thrillseekers
23. Menno de Jong
24. Adam Sheridan
25. Sean Tyas

I’d personally like to see Above & Beyond take that number one spot this year, though I have nothing against any one taking or keeping the position.

Who do you rate or not recognise in the list, and who do you wish to take the top spot for 2009?
