There are without a doubt many, many well known talented male DJs and producers around the globe, but how many female DJs and producers could you name?

To be honest even I struggled to make this post off the top of my head and asked around for a few pointers! Many female DJs it seems are struggling very hard to keep up with the game…
I came across many websites and profiles that were out of date and what was possibly a blossoming career in trance has sadly wilted away.

The ten below I hope some of you have heard of, or at least will see make further headway in their careers…enjoy!

Claudia Cazacu

Quote from her Biography on freshdjs.com…

“Moving to the UK from Romania 10 years ago, Claudia Cazacu soon found herself at home in the thriving London clubbing scene. Attending events week in week out, it wasn’t long before she decided her destiny belonged behind the decks! Launching her career in 2006, Claudia has followed in the footsteps of the new ‘super’ generation of DJs that are supremely talented both behind the decks and in the studio.”

My thoughts on selling my Technics 1210 Mk3s whilst they sit and gather dust waiting to be sold.

For quite some time I have been in the process of selling my beloved pair of Technics 1210 Mk3 decks/turntables (depending on your preference of terminology).

For a very, very, very long time they have been doing that common used phrase of ‘gathering dust’ and not being used at all. The same goes for my vinyl which spans trance, hard house, hardstyle and some techno. Sitting doing nothing, completely and utterly pointless…so I have decided very soon they shall be sold. I have been saying this for more than a year, so who knows, next year I may still be saying this all over again

That is why I’d like to bring to attention this following article posted last month on Mixmag.net by Nick Stevenson, it is titled ‘Is there ever a time to sell your decks?’

It really struck a chord with me as they were my escapism from the world at times. They were my babies that would signal the start of the weekend as I played on them before going out and finally signalled the end at some point Monday morning before returning to work for the week. Then in the middle of the week I would slap some new tunes on, acquired from the local vinyl stockists where I lived and start looking forward to the weekend for some more clubbing adventures.

I’ll be sad to see them go when that time finally arrives. I firmly believe in modern technology though and raise an eyebrow to anyone who holds onto vinyl and still thinks they will still cut it with the rest. I will be looking to embrace either Ableton or Traktor in the near future as my choice for getting to grips with music again. Yes it means no more beat matching, but lets you get on with manipulating your music and getting even more creative. If you don’t put in that extra effort, then yes I see the argument that you are taking away the talent that a DJ should bring to a club

Once again here is the link to Nick Stevenson’s post: Is there ever a time to sell your decks?

Before I knew it, I’m waking up Wednesday and have twice as much as yesterday to do!

So this weeks Trance <strike>Tuesday</strike> Wednesday is Brighton, UK based DJ named Roben. I had him down to play some time ago for my own event in Portsmouth, UK called iLLuMIDanCe and his latest mix is perfect. So yeah this one is a little more personal as I have personally previously booked Roben to play, but I hope you enjoy his recent demo mix provided below as much as I did!

Rather than stop at the Top 25 Trance DJs, I decided to compile a further 25 DJs to complete the Top 50 Trance DJs as voted by DJmag.com visitors.

I was not entirely happy with compiling the Top 25 for a number of reasons. Mostly because it was made up of known names, many new artists who had broken the scene were missing and I felt it was a bland read because of that. So I went back through the list at DJmag.com and spotted a number of artists who should be noted.

If you did not catch the Top 25 Trance DJs post I made please click here before delving into the second half which includes those from 26-50.

Here I have now compiled the list further to complete the Top 50 Trance DJs as voted by DJmag.com readers!

…26. DJ Feel
27. Yahel
28. DJ Shah
29. John O’Callaghan
30. Blank & Jones
31. Cosmic Gate
32. Simon Patterson
33. Gabriel & Dresden
34. Richard Durand
35. Matt Hardwick
36. Signum
37. Tiddey
38. Greg Downey
39. Marcel Woods
40. Solar System
41. Skazi
42. Mike Koglin
43. Solarstone
44. Astral Projection
45. Leon Bolier
46. Ronski Speed
47. Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Woody van Eyden
48. John ’00′ Fleming
49. Christopher Lawrence
50. Bt

The last three were just outside the official Top 100 list.

DJs in the list I was glad to see…

Artists I was particularly glad to see in this list were Simon Patterson, Richard Durand, Leon Boiler, Marcel Woods, Solarstone and John ’00′ Fleming. Also worth noting the continuation of psy-trance being featured as it continues its popularity across the globe.

As mentioned in the comments for the Top 25 Trance DJs list, there are again a high number of DJs in the list who are well known for their productions, and more so for their productions than their ability as a DJ in many people’s opinion.
My thoughts are that in any part of the music industry you have to be accomplished as an artist releasing music (if your actually writing it is another matter) to be taken seriously and climb the stardom ladder. Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Kings of Leon, Metallica, Madonna, Lilly Allen, none of them would of got anywhere if they had stayed in a pub/club singing covers. For that reason I think it is wise to assume the same goes within the electronic music industry and the top lists reinforce that idea.

My advice if you want to make the Top 100 DJ list is; start learning to produce music with the intention to release some tracks and worry about your DJ skills being polished and refined later

iLove Trance Music announces TranceTuesdays on Twitter!

As some of you following the @ilovetrance account on Twitter will know, I started talking about how I was to bring something to you Twitter Tweeters on Tuesday. So in all its glory I announce ‘TranceTuesday’, or in Twitter speak – #trancetuesday

EDIT: Below is the original post made where I intended that Twitter users spread the word of up and coming DJs and artists. Many users were recommending known artists, so in a later post I suggested that people do just that and recommend whoever they like. I will be trying my hardest still to seek out new people in the scene for you all to listen to though.
What is Trance Tuesday?

TranceTuesday is an opportunity for you to make at least one tweet that informs your followers of a new DJ/artist/producer. Look at it as our own take on FollowFriday, but aimed specifically at us helping what we truely enjoy, rather than an internet marketing ploy of gaining more followers

For more on FollowFriday please look at this article… #FollowFriday: The Anatomy of a Twitter Trend
I understand that there is a @newmusictuesday as I did some research seeing if there was already a Trance Tuesday. They cover a spectrum of music though and not aiming at any particular genre from what I can see.

So what do I do on TranceTuesday?

You simply send a tweet about your newly discovered talented DJ/artist/producer!

It can be their username on Twitter, but a much better way of supporting your new found person(s) would be an legite link also to their production or demo mix I’m sure you’ll agree! (Please do not condone filesharing, send your followers to official download sites to pay for the artists work, support the scene!)

The aim is then that your followers who also like your find, will listen to said track or mix and retweet if they like it. You have then helped create a new fanbase and contributed to the scene. I would like to think you focus primarily at up and coming DJs/artists/producers. It is not that I have anything against the likes of Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, etc. I just love good trance music and finding new hidden gems, as I’m sure you do too!

I was deciding between Thursday or Tuesday as you may recall. The reason I decided on Tuesday is as follows:

1. Thursday everyone is looking towards the weekend, not back to last weekend as they do on say a Tuesday. The conversation would be more focused on the forthcoming headliner, rather than the DJ who shined in the back room at 4am.
2. It gives you a chance to recover after the Monday blues when returning back to your Mon-Fri 9-5 routine (if applicable to you

So I announce today as the first TranceTuesday! I hope you all love the idea and take part!

Follow me on Twitter to see who I recommend each TranceTuesday! @ilovetrance

Cheers to illustrator-artwork.blogspot.com for the birdie in the design I made.

For many DJs being featured in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list is rather like being nominated for a BAFTA or an Oscar.

For many DJs being featured in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list is rather like being nominated for a BAFTA or an Oscar. It opens avenues, enables them to ask for a bigger booking fee and also there must be that feeling of “Yes I’ve made it!”. It is without a doubt the landmark event each year with dance music fans and industry insiders watching closely to see who takes the No.1 spot.

I was originally going to make this the Top 10 Trance DJs, but then with DJmag.com visitors voting for 7 out of the Top 10 DJs as part of our much loved genre, then it would of been way too easy a list to compile and not leave much food for thought. So here in all its glory is the Top 25 Trance DJs compiled from the Top 100 DJs List as voted by DJmag.com visitors in 2008!

01. Armin van Buuren
02. Tiësto
03. Paul van Dyk
04. Above & Beyond
05. Ferry Corsten
06. Markus Schulz
07. Infected Mushroom
08. Sander van Doorn
09. Paul Oakenfold
10. Andy Moor
11. Eddie Halliwell
12. Kyau & Albert
13. Gareth Emery
14. ATB
15. Bobina
16. Aly & Fila
17. Judge Jules
18. Matt Darey
19. Lange
20. Astrix
21. Marco V
22. The Thrillseekers
23. Menno de Jong
24. Adam Sheridan
25. Sean Tyas

I’d personally like to see Above & Beyond take that number one spot this year, though I have nothing against any one taking or keeping the position.

Who do you rate or not recognise in the list, and who do you wish to take the top spot for 2009?
