If you haven’t ventured into the world of clubbing movies yet, here are five films that I think you should watch!
Some film critics will say that there hasn’t been a decent clubbing movie, they are all badly written, badly directed, etc. etc. Let’s get one thing straight… Since when did clubbing become so fuckin’ serious?
So sit back, relax, neck one – a drink that is
and get on it as we take a trip down memory lane with 5 classic clubbing movies made for the weekend!
Human Traffic
Where have you been if you haven’t heard of Human Traffic?
The plot revolves round a group of friends getting messy and have the “best night of our lives”. It really focuses on the relationships that clubbers have with each other and is personally my favourite clubbing movie of all time. The soundtrack reads as a who’s who of the 90s electronic dance music scene.
Go
Go delves into the hectic world of clubland when drug deals incorporate shady characters and temptations of easy cash. Throw in a police sting for good measure and you know there is going to be trouble.
The soundtrack was overseen by BT, which introduced me to DJ Rap (not trance I know, but an awesome artist none the less).
It’s All Gone Pete Tong
It’s All Gone Pete Tong follows the decline of fictional DJ character Frankie Wilde as he lives the party lifestyle on the White Isle – Ibiza! Funny as hell, just wait till you see the coke badger!
Unfortunately Frankie also goes deaf during the course of his career and we are left wondering if Frankie will ever kick his coke habit and continue DJing to the crowds…
Kevin & Perry Go Large
The Kevin and Perry characters were originally shown as part of comedian Harry Enfield’s ‘Kevin the Teenager’ sketch for his Harry Enfield’s Television Programme. In Kevin & Perry Go Large we follow the two teenagers to Ibiza as they want to become superstar DJs.
It is a laugh a minute film with the pair trying their luck with the girls, and has a soundtrack with tunes that are instantly recognisable.
Sorted
I’ll be honest here, I saw this film ages ago but it cropped up again as I was researching this article for films. The soundtrack looks amazing with loads of trance tracks, so I’ll be buying this one myself and watching it again
I do remember the plot vaguely that the main character’s brother is dead, hence he is in London. He meets his brother’s friends and gets involved in the London club scene getting off his face – sounds like a typical Sorted weekend in London! Hahaha!
Some scenes are filmed at the infamous Ministry of Sound too!

When I saw your post I was quite surprised I’d seen all of these. Without a doubt, Human Traffic is the best of these, even the “remixed” version which reportedly annoyed a lot of the people involved in the original. Go is another good film, but for me it was less relevant that Human Traffic as the clubbing aspect is a little more limited and of course it’s in the US rather than the UK (nothing wrong with that, but for someone like me that was joining the UK scene it didn’t speak to me in quite the same way. It’s All Gone Pete Tong really highlight the excesses but wasn’t always such a pleasant whilst Kevin and Perry was enjoyable for seeing the location footage shot in Ibiza but was a bit too crude for my tastes. The one that annoyed me was Sorted. I only saw it once, years ago, but it started as such a promising film yet was ruined by the insertion of a bad guy, breaking the illusion and giving it a pantomime feeling at the end. I know this was probably necessary but I remember thinking at the time how it felt like such a let down after watching the rest of the film.
Wandering around Sainsbury’s I found a new film I’d not heard of, just released, set during the early rave scene. I’ve not yet been tempted to part with my hard earned cash but the day is getting closer when this film sits in my DVD cabinet.
One film you missed: Beyond the Rave. Hammer Horror returned a couple of years ago and decided to release their first new movie in several decades as an online episodic series set in a rave and made available via MySpace. I loved watching it online but, when released on DVD, my version is still in five minute episodes rather than edited into a film which gets a bit annoying. There are some notable scenes (skip this bit for spoilers) I love watching such as the Vampires that force a DJ to snort a tremendous amount of a certain fizzy narcotic before drinking his blood as a way to get high. Sadly it became a get clichéd towards the end but for raving and vampires, nothing beats it
I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I’ve not seen any of the films on this list… O.o“` (tho I vaguely remember a bit of GO, might have caught part of it on TV at some point) Guess I’ve got some flicks I need to catch up on~ ;D
I`ve seen “It`s all Gone Pete Tong”. It`s amusing but not something you must have seen.. A warning about another DJ movie i`ve seen: “Hey mr. DJ”.. Terrible movie with no storie, just a DJ that fucks around.. The DVD itself was nice, so now it`s decoration on my wall haha
You should also watch Berlin calling.
Looks interesting, I’ll add it to my list of films. Thanks for contributing!
